"Our vision was to take everything guests have loved about this destination for decades and revitalize it through a more modern, design-forward lens." That's how Karie Hall, SVP and General Manager of Harrah's and Caesars Republic Lake Tahoe, described the project at the July 6 grand opening.
Three months later, that quote holds up better than most opening-night lines. Behind the new sign, the old Harveys is mostly still there. The new pieces are smaller and more everyday than the "luxury" headlines suggest. The bigger change for Stateline's casino corridor hasn't happened yet. It's sitting with regulators.
The Wagon Wheel Family Was at the Ribbon
The building's story goes back further than most of the corridor. Harvey and Llewellyn Gross moved to Lake Tahoe in 1937 and ran a meat market and butcher shop. In 1944 they opened Harvey's Wagon Wheel Saloon & Gambling Hall. South Tahoe Now describes it as a small log cabin with a wagon wheel nailed above the door, a few slot machines, a six-seat lunch counter, and the only 24-hour gas station between Placerville and Carson City.
Three generations of the family came to the July ribbon-cutting: grandson Kirk Ledbetter, great-grandson Kristopher, and great-great-grandson Kamden. Kirk and his wife Debbie helped found the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe in 1991. During the celebration, Caesars Republic gave the Club a $10,000 check.
That continuity runs through the whole property. Look past the rebrand coverage and most of the familiar places are still in business.
What Made It Through the Renovation
The name change itself is older news than many people realize. The April 2025 plan put the switch to Caesars Republic on July 1, 2025, with the resort staying open throughout. By August 2025 the Reno Gazette Journal was calling the first phase complete. This July's party marked the end of the project, not the start.
Here's how the places you probably already know came through it:
| Venue | Where it stands now |
|---|---|
| Sage Room Steak House | Still operating under its own name at Caesars Republic. 2025 reporting said it would be upgraded with no planned name change. Opens at 5 p.m. |
| WOLF by Vanderpump | Opened April 18, 2024, before the overhaul. The bar runs 3 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until midnight Friday and Saturday. |
| Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen | Already operating at Harveys before the renovation. Listed as opening at 4 p.m. |
| The outdoor concert venue | Now called Lake Tahoe Amphitheatre at Caesars Republic. The Lake Tahoe Summer Concert Series ran there again in 2026. |
The amphitheater kept bringing in big names this summer. A May 2026 Sierra Sun guide listed The Black Keys on June 11, Rascal Flatts on July 10, Eric Church on July 15, Koe Wetzel on July 24, and Lauren Daigle on July 25. The series wrapped for the season by September.
So if your idea of a big night at Harveys was dinner at the Sage Room or a summer show by the lake, it still works. The celebrity restaurants in the press photos aren't new either. WOLF has been open for more than two years now.
What's Actually New Fits an Ordinary Weeknight
The genuinely new spaces from the second phase lean toward the everyday. The February 2026 Phase Two announcement said the pool, meeting and convention space, fitness center, and Tessie's were slated for summer 2026. Here's what those additions look like day to day:
- Tessie's Cocktails & Chords, at 18 U.S. Highway 50, was set to debut July 2, with daily hours from 11 a.m. until late, according to a June Tahoe Daily Tribune preview. By the July 6 grand opening it was hosting live rock sets from Tahoe Tommy and Pier Pressure. The preview promised live bands seven nights a week, including live-band karaoke on Tuesdays and yacht rock on Thursdays, and said the room was designed around Tahoe imagery.
- Cleo's Coffee and Cocktails is a café by day and a lounge by night. It's listed as opening at 6 a.m., and its venue page showed a 10 p.m. close.
- Bar Centro, Celeste Bar, and Alto Bar are the casino-floor bars Caesars now lists. Their individual hours aren't posted.
- High Dive Pool + Lounge is described as a year-round heated pool with hot tubs and an indoor-outdoor bar open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with full- and half-day cabanas you can reserve. The public page doesn't say whether people who aren't hotel guests can use the pool, so call before planning a local pool day.
- El Jefe's Cantina Tahoe is on the current dining list, with street tacos, fajitas, DJs, and UFC on a big screen starting at 4 p.m.
A 6 a.m. coffee counter and a live-band karaoke night are the kind of additions that matter if you live 15 minutes away, not just if you're flying in for a weekend. These hours come from live listings, and they shift with the seasons, so check the venue page before you head up the hill.
The price tag is the one detail that changes depending on who's telling it. The 2025 announcement and KOLO's July 2026 report use $160 million. The Tahoe Daily Tribune's Phase Two story and South Tahoe Now's grand-opening coverage use $200 million. Either way, it's one of the largest single investments the corridor has seen in years.
Three of Four Casinos, One Company
This is where the story stops looking back at the renovation and starts looking ahead.
In late September, Caesars Entertainment shareholders approved the company's $17.6 billion merger with Tilman Fertitta's Houston-based Fertitta Entertainment, according to Nevada Independent reporting republished by the Tahoe Daily Tribune on September 25, 2026. Fertitta's company already owns eight Golden Nugget casinos in five states, and one of them is Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe.
The Tribune spells out the local effect. A combined Caesars-Fertitta operation would control three of Stateline's four casinos: Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe, Harrah's Lake Tahoe, and Caesars Republic.
Part of that consolidation already shows on the ground. Karie Hall's title covers both Harrah's and Caesars Republic, and Caesars presents the two as a single destination with nearly 1,250 guest rooms between them. The Caesars dining page already lists Harrah's restaurants right alongside the Caesars Republic ones: Friday's Station Steak & Seafood Grill on Harrah's top floor, Sapori Italian Kitchen, and Brew Brothers. The merger would add the Golden Nugget across the highway to that group.
None of this is final. The deal still needs approval from gaming regulators across the country, including Nevada, and a federal antitrust review. The Tribune reports that most of the state regulatory decisions are expected next year. Through this winter, the Golden Nugget and the two Caesars properties remain separate companies.
This October Still Has Several Hosts
That separate ownership shows in this month's calendar, where events on the corridor are still spread across different operators and venues:
- Tahoe Twilight Bites runs Wednesday afternoons from 3 to 7 p.m. through the end of October at the Tahoe Nugget lot, 177 Highway 50, with rotating food trucks, craft vendors, and a mobile bar.
- The South Shore Chili CookOff makes its debut at Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe on Saturday, October 17, pairing local restaurants with first-responder organizations.
- Tahoe Terror at Bally's runs a haunted house in the Opal Ultra Lounge on October Fridays and Saturdays from 8 p.m. to midnight. Haunted carriage rides leave from the Bally's valet starting at 4 p.m.
- The 47th Annual Freaker's Ball takes over the Bally's Showroom at 55 Highway 50 on Saturday, October 31. This year it's billed as a reimagined event with a $15,000 costume prize pool.
The chili cookoff is a first-year event at the Golden Nugget, the property the merger would fold into the Caesars-Fertitta group, so it's one to watch next October.
If you've been saying "Harveys" since before Caesars Republic existed, I'd love to hear which spots you still make the drive for, and what you'd want any new owner to keep. I'm in the valley every day watching how Stateline's changes ripple down to Carson Valley, so if you want to talk about what's happening up the hill, Let's Connect with Kaycee Summers.
